STUDENT AFFAIRS PHILOSOPHY
Prioritize students first. While this statement may seem obvious initially because the word student is in the name of the profession, constant changes, emerging issues, and institutional politics, may shift the focus away from students. It is the unwavering responsibility of student affairs professionals to assess students’ developmental needs and strategically create supplemental programming and other interventions accordingly. These programs and interventions, while derived from assessment and understanding of college students, flourish because of student affairs professionals’ steadfast concern for others, leadership, and desire to share knowledge, or multiply power.
My philosophy of student affairs mirrors my core values of concern for others, leadership, and knowledge. I include in my philosophy the idea of putting students first. This is derived from my deep care and concern for others. Additionally, I want to identify competency areas students are struggling with and create programs or other interventions to supplement their classroom educations. This concept mirrors my core value of knowledge. I believe that knowledge is power and the more students know, the more successful they will be post-graduation.
My goal is to educate students beyond what they learn in classrooms so that they can graduate with a well-rounded education and have the ability to change the world. One of the skills students can learn through strategic programming is leadership. Leadership is a core value of mine and is a quality that has the ability to help others. Students with leadership abilities have the capacity to guide others to achieve success and the desire to do so stems from the basic core value of concern for others.

M.Ed Student
I am a student-oriented higher education professional. My previous and current work involves blending my creativity with organization to maintain and actively create social media content, manage and coordinate educational and social events, and advise students. As a Graduate Assistant for Campus Life, I work closely with various internal and external constituents to plan and execute departmental appreciation events, leadership workshops, and union programs. Furthermore, I supervise a programming assistant, advise 8 student managers, and plan intentional trainings to develop the skills needed for the department's 120 student employees to deliver high quality customer service, enhance critical thinking skills, and create an inclusive environment. Simultaneously for the past year and a half, I served as the Operations and Marketing Manager for Porch Conversion. In this role I liaise with more than 500 customers and contractors, manage and create outreach initiatives, and design promotional materials for the company, including web content, digital and print materials, brochures, flyers, and franchise PowerPoint presentations. My marketing, advertising, and promotion strategies have lead to a 50% increase in website traffic.
Most recently, I served as the Student Engagement Intern for Student Services at Maynooth University in Maynooth, Ireland. Over the course of my internship I conducted a quantitative assessment of the 68-person Orientation Leader Programme within an international University context. I utilized my understanding of Irish culture and statistical analysis to analyze survey data, draw conclusions, provide recommendations to the department chair, and present my findings and learning outcomes to an audience of 30 people.
